warning! spoilers ahead Sonic Hedgehog #51!
The publisher IDW eventually described Dr. Eggman’s creation of Badniks as something of a complete surprise — a real problem with Sonic the Hedgehog that could even threaten his life.
Like IDW’s comic book-based video games, Badniks, especially the smaller ones, have almost one purpose and one purpose only – being crushed by Sonic. In fact, that was the premise of the first issue of the series. Sonic just defeated Eggman and is currently cleaning up all the Badnicks left. He quickly took them down, and after defeating a larger, stiffer droid with the help of his tail, the smaller minion droid escaped.
But the tone of the comics surrounding the Badniks, even the smaller ones, suddenly switched Sonic Hedgehog #51 Ian Flynn, Adam Bryce Thomas, Mauro Fonseca, Rick Mack, Heather Bracker and Sean Lee. After a series of simultaneous battles in the now iconic Sonic #50, Blue Blur and his friends, of course, decide to run away. Sonic suggests engaging Badnick’s aggressive army currently being pursued, so that Tail can activate the enemy plane. But Tails mentions that they are facing 10 times the normal number of people and hope someone will be there to assist Sonic. While Sonic continues to smash a bunch of these Badniks, the hedgehog himself admits that he’s running empty and that it would be a bit too much if Eggman joined the Badniks’ attack. Overwhelmed, Blue Blur greeted the fleeing Tails on the nearest hotline plane.
It was the quantity of Badniks and not their quality that put Sonic at a huge disadvantage and the fact that he was still recovering from his previous battle with Surge. But when Sonic has to fight alone against the mere Badniks, no matter the nuance, readers are left confused. Tails’ words certainly help set the tone for what is usually a fun but nail-biting fight, and Sonic’s private thoughts only confirm that Tails isn’t overprotective. Of course, this isn’t the first time IDW has described Badniks as more of a threat than usual. Before that, Sonic and his friends came across a strange tower that Eggman had built to test his latest invention, the most unsettling test site including Badniks, being used. against other droids. Rebuilt in various parts, like some mechanized versions of Frankenstein’s monsters. Though easily defeated, the heroes were clearly shaken by this unsettling development. For readers, the grotesque setting makes this scene stand out from Batman’s usual attack.
While fans are particularly excited about the upcoming rematch between Tails and Kit and Belle and Metal Sonic, it’s equally exciting to know that either of Eggman’s Badniks could pose a challenge. bigger for Sonic the Hedgehog, since he just broke his leg, the two friends will probably be busy competing against Kit and Metal Sonic for a chance to help him. Now is a great time to be a Badnik!
