A manager for Smash Mouth’s lead singer tells the outlet that Steve has been battling alcohol abuse his entire life and has reached the final stage of liver failure.

He had been receiving treatment in a hospital and is now in hospice care at home, where his friends and loved ones have gathered for the past three days.

Steve’s manager says he probably only has a week to live.

This news comes almost two years after an incident on stage, where he seemed incredibly disoriented during a live performance, slurring his words and yelling at the audience, leading him to declare his retirement.

At the time, it was reported that he had been battling Wernicke’s cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and encephalopathy, as well as his substance abuse, which contributed to his decline.

Smash Mouth had big hits in the early 2000s with songs like “All Star” and “I’m a Believer.”
