On 18 May 2022, after Shraddha allegedly pressured her for marriage, Aftab strangled Shraddha to death and cut her body into 35 pieces, which he stored in a rented flat in Delhi for about eighteen days for Rs. 300. -Liter was kept in the refrigerator; He threw Shraddha’s body pieces in a row in and around the city at midnight. Some sources claim that Shraddha and Aftab often fought over household items and daily expenses.

According to some media outlets, Aftab watched many crime films and web series before committing the murder. Reportedly, Aftab hatched the plan from ‘Dexter’, an American crime drama web series that shows the life of a man who commits crimes at night and spends his day solving them. According to Delhi Police sources, Aftab used a small saw to cut Shraddha’s body and threw her clothes in a garbage cart. To avoid suspicion, Aftab used Shraddha’s social media and paid her credit card bill till June 2022.

Reportedly, in September 2022, a friend of Shraddha informed her father that she was not in contact with his daughter for about 2.5 months, following which Shraddha’s father reported her to the Manikpur police station in Vasai, Maharashtra on October 12, 2022. Filed a missing person’s report; However, based on Shraddha’s last known location, the case was transferred to Mehrauli Police Station in New Delhi.

Her father suspected Aftab of being involved in his daughter’s disappearance. In an interview, South Delhi Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ankit Chauhan told the media that Aftab had confessed to his crime and said that he had disposed of Shraddha’s body in the forest area near Chhatarpur Enclave. Ankit Chauhan said,
The accused told us that he cut her body into pieces and threw them in the forest areas near Chhatarpur Enclave. He has been arrested and investigation is ongoing.”

On May 9, 2023, Saket Court of Delhi had accused Aftab of murder in the Shraddha Walker murder case. During the announcement of the order, ASJ Manisha Khurana Kakkar said,
You murdered Shraddha Walker after 6:30 am on 18th May 2022 and this offense is punishable under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Between May 18 and October 18, knowing that a crime had been committed, you dismembered his body and disposed of it at Chhatarpur and other places with the intention of destroying the evidence. Thus, you have committed the crime of destruction of evidence.”
