Shobha Ohatkar was born on Friday, 3 September 1965 (age 57 years; as in 2023) in Hyderabad. Her zodiac sign is Virgo. He completed his schooling in Hyderabad. In 1989, he earned a master’s degree in political science from the Central University of Hyderabad. When she was a child, her father always suggested her to join the service. After completing his studies, he passed the UPSC exam in the first attempt and got Patna Cadet to serve as Assistant Superintendent of Police. In an interview, he had said that his father was responsible for his success as he always told him to work honestly and sincerely. His mother was a little worried about him after he got the posting in Bihar, but his father was completely confident and inspired him a lot. In 1992, she became the first woman ASP, which raised many questions regarding her posting.

Shobha became the first Assistant Superintendent of Police of Patna Cadet in 1992. In the year 2000 he was transferred to Pune where he worked as Additional Commissioner of Police. While working in Maharashtra, she also served as the Executive Director of Security at Air India. She has worked as SP in 6 districts of Bihar including Darbhanga, Hazaribagh, Chhapra, Vaishali and Deoghar. In December 2020, she returned to Bihar Cadet and became the first woman Director General of Bihar. As of 2022, she is the IG of Home Guards and Fire Services.

Air India gave clean chit to Shobha
In 2016, Air India submitted a report to the Civil Aviation Ministry (CAM) and alleged that when Shobha was serving as Chief Vigilance Officer (Deputy CVO), she was traveling to various places at the airline’s expense and Was staying in hotels. The ministry sought clarification from Air India. A senior official of the Civil Aviation Ministry (CAM) spoke about the report submitted by Air India and said,
The report said that HRA was inadvertently paid to the CVO by the Finance Department, however, when he informed about it, it was immediately recovered from his salary. The report clarified that Ohtkar’s stay in a Mumbai hotel was approved by the then CMD until he was allotted suitable residential accommodation in the city. Tickets were taken for a total of 31 journeys over a period of one year, of which only 21 were used for duty travel. Those were trivial complaints. How can a person travel 31 times in a month, as was alleged. The allegations of corruption are not only baseless and false, but also appear to have been made with deliberate malicious intent to undermine the honesty and integrity of a senior officer.
Vikas Vaibhav vs Shobha Ohtkar
On February 10, 2023, a screenshot of IPS Vikas Vaibhav’s tweet “Hearing abuses from DG Madam every day” went viral on social media. It was seen in the video that he had recorded the official meeting of himself and Shobha and shared it on social media. After the video went viral, a show cause notice was sent to him. He was accused of violating the provisions of Rule 3 of the All India Services Conduct Rules, 1968 and breach of confidentiality. The notice said,
The matter of your recording in the viral message has become public. It is clear that the discussions taking place in office meetings are recorded by you. This reveals your wrong intentions. This is also a violation of the relevant provisions of the Official Secrets Act. IPS Vikas Vaibhav has tried to tarnish the image of his senior officer by making baseless allegations through social media. His conduct is completely contrary to that of a senior police officer and is indicative of his indiscipline, dereliction of duty and acting against the law.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar spoke in favor of Shobha and criticized Vaibhav’s actions, saying,
You should know this very well, it is not the job of any employee or officer to tweet. This is the worst thing. If they have any problem they should inform their department or superiors. He should tell it personally, not announce it publicly. This is the law.”
On 13 February 2023, he sought approval of his transfer and 60 days leave for which he had earlier applied, but Shobha did not allow him. On 16 February 2023, the Home Department had also issued a notice to him regarding his behavior with a senior officer.

- Shobha generally worked for the welfare of women. She formed a committee which gave helpline numbers for women’s safety in Maharashtra. He also served as the nodal officer for human trafficking in Maharashtra.
- In an interview he said that his aim is to create fear of police in the minds of criminals. She was known as ‘Hunterwali’ in Bihar due to her strict action against criminals. Once she beat up some accused of raping women visiting temples in Deoghar so brutally that the criminals became afraid of her and she was named ‘Hunterwali’.
- In an interview, he shared some big cases which he had solved while he was SP in Bihar. When she was the SP of Vaishali, she banned triple riding on bikes, which reduced crime in the area by 50 percent. She had arrested a gang of 16-17 criminals in Diara area of Bihar and in the year 2000, when she was the SP of Hazaribagh, she had arrested 40 coal mafias.
- In 2006, when she was on deputation to Maharashtra, she solved a major sex scandal in Ahmed Nagar. The case was of rape of two minor girls in which many big and powerful people were involved. While SP in the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW), he arrested 26 of them and filed a charge sheet against all the accused within 90 days.
- In an interview, she said that when she was SP, she used to listen to people’s problems and gain their trust by working for them. He further said that any SP who wants to succeed must win the trust of the people by talking to them directly.
- According to her, she works 18 hours a day and wants her colleagues to also work hard for the betterment of the society.
