Working as one of the full-time volunteers of the Sangh Parivar, Shobha Karandlaje became the general secretary of the Udupi district BJP Mahila Morcha in 1996, and later she became the state secretary and general secretary of the Mahila Morcha. FIR against Karandlaje on charges of spreading religious hatred
In January 2020, the Kerala Police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him, accusing him of spreading religious hatred. The action against him was taken due to a controversial tweet in which he claimed that many Hindu families in Malappuram district were being denied water because of his support for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act of 2019.
