Shera aka Gurmeet Singh Jolly was born on Monday, 19 May 1969 (age 53 years; as in 2022) in Andheri, Mumbai. His zodiac sign is Taurus. He did his schooling from Sheth Chunnilal Damodardas Barfiwala High School, Mumbai. When he was studying in 11th class at Bhavan’s College, Mumbai, he left junior college to work in his father’s garage.

Shera follows Sikhism. In an interview, he shared that due to the nature of his job he had to give up his turban. He said,
Earlier I used to wear a turban. I am a Sikh. Because of my job I had to give up my turban. It was not possible to keep it due to crowd. That’s why I had to cut my hair. I started wearing caps etc.”

Shera started his career as a bodybuilder in his teens. After this he participated in various bodybuilding competitions. In 1987 he won the title of Mr. Mumbai Junior. In 1988, he participated in the Mister Maharashtra Junior contest and stood second.

In the early 1990s, many Indian celebrities started contacting him to work as bodyguards for them. He has been a part of the security team of many international celebrities like Michael Jackson, Will Smith, Paris Hilton, Mike Tyson and Jackie Chan.

In an interview, Shera shared that he started working in security under the guidance of Andre Timmins, founder of entertainment programming company Wizcraft. Shera also revealed that Andre was her neighbor and he inspired Shera to work in the security department. After this Shera joined Wizcraft to handle the security department.
Salman Khan’s bodyguard
In 1995, when Shera was working in the security team of the Whigfield concert, he met Salman for the first time. Later, she met Salman again at Canadian actor Keanu Reeves’ party. A few days later, when Salman Khan was attending a show in Chandigarh, the crowd went out of control. After the incident, Salman’s brother Sohail Khan decided to hire another bodyguard for Salman’s security. Sohail then decides to appoint Shera as Salman’s personal bodyguard. In an interview, Shera talked about her early work with Salman Khan. He said,
During one of my early assignments, I was in Indore with the owner. We were traveling by car down this very small road where there were a lot of fans present and other people also walking. There was only one small road to go and come and we were getting late. I was also a little tired. He gave me a pill. Said (Khan said) ‘Take this.’ He gave me a dose of something. I took it. You can’t believe this: I ran 8 km in front of their car to clear the way (for the fans). This was the thing I did with my brother. Since then, I have been like family to the owner.
Shera further revealed that initially, he would go a day before Salman’s shooting schedule to check the security arrangements and only after being assured about his safety, he would take Salman to the shooting locations. Shera once shared that his toughest moment being Salman Khan’s bodyguard was during Salman Khan’s hit and run and black buck case. He said that he kept taking Salman from court to court and he felt bad seeing Salman’s condition. During that time Shera used to hide Salman from the crowd and media people.

He once said that whatever he achieved in his life was only because of Salman and whatever he did for Shera, no one could do it for a bodyguard. In an interview, she shared her feelings for Salman and said,
Malik means owner and Salman Malik is everything to me. Who else in the industry has done this for their bodyguard? I will give my life for him. He is my God. As long as I am alive, I will stay with my brother. I always tell people that they will never see me standing behind or next to my brother. I will stand before him in anticipation of any danger. He further said, “I am like a horse decorated for a wedding to carry the groom. I am only worried about my boss (Salman) and wherever he goes, I am there. I am his yes man. Till today, I have done whatever the owner said. That’s why I’m part of the owner’s family.”

In 2011, Salman Khan dedicated his Hindi film ‘Bodyguard’ to Shera. In the film, Shera did a cameo role in the title track of the film. Salman also wore a bodyguard uniform with the logo of Shera’s security company ‘Tiger Security Services’. Shera talked about this in an interview. He said,

We went to the Gateway of India (in Mumbai) at night, and the next day to the slums near Shivaji Nagar. Next time, I wanted to take her in the helicopter but she insisted on traveling in my car. He was using my car. He felt like having coffee in a mall and got down to Vashi Road to go to In Orbit Mall. He went to Starbucks and by the time he got there, everything went haywire and people started gathering. Before panic could take over, I had to drag her back into the van and immediately book a room at a nearby hotel for her safety.

In October 2019, Shera joined the Indian political party Shiv Sena. The party shared this news on its Twitter account. It is written in the tweet,

accused in an assault case
On October 25, 2016, a man had filed a case of assault against Shera at DN Nagar police station. A case was registered against Shera under sections 326 (intentionally causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation), 323 (intentionally causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).
