In addition to creating his own analytics division, Eppler brought New York executives to the Angels, including special assistant Eric Chavez. With the additions of Shohei Ohtani, Justin Upton, Anthony Rendon and Andrelton Simmons over the next three seasons, Eppler strengthened the team around Mike Trout. Eppler received a four-year contract from the New York Mets and was hired as general manager on November 18, 2021.
