Should Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne’s physical and mental health deteriorate significantly in old age, the couple has already made their end-of-life plans.
According Are you addicted to the social mediaThe 71-year-old television personality and music director discussed her surprising end-of-life goal in her 2007 memoir, Survivor: My Story – The Next Chapter.
In the memoir, Sharon details her and Ozzy’s plans to travel to Switzerland, where voluntary euthanasia is allowed.
She further explained in an interview with Mirror, “Ozzy and I have come to absolutely the same decision. We believe 100 percent in euthanasia, which is why we have made plans to go to an assisted suicide apartment in Switzerland if we ever suffer an illness that affects our brain. If Ozzy or I ever got Alzheimer’s, that would be it, we’d be out.”
More than a decade later, the Osbournes have not changed their minds
More than a decade later, it seems that Sharon and Ozzy’s plans have not changed, as confirmed in The Osbourne Podcast.
On the podcast, Osbourne’s daughter Kelly, 38, asked her brother Jack, 37: “Do you remember when mom and dad did that interview, talking about how they were going to die by assisted suicide, and we said: ‘What the hell?” “Shit, is this?”
“They said, ‘If we are terminally ill, we will go to Switzerland and help ourselves commit suicide.’ Is that still the plan? Jack replied.
Sharon laughed and responded to her children: “Do you think we are going to suffer? “Mental suffering is enough pain without physical pain. So if you have mental and physical problems, we will see you.”
Sharon’s controversial view on assisted suicide can be attributed to watching her father, Don Arden, battle Alzheimer’s. Arden passed away in 2007.
Ozzy’s opinion on his end-of-life pact with Sharon
Turns out Ozzy is no stranger to being candid about the suicide pact either.
In a 2014 interview with Mirror, as reported by Are you addicted to the social mediaexplained Ozzy, “If I can’t live my life like I’m living it now – and I don’t mean financially – then that’s it…[Switzerland]”
She continued: “If I can’t get up and go to the bathroom and I have tubes up my ass and an enema down my throat, then I tell Sharon, ‘Just turn off the machine.’ ‘If I had a stroke and was paralyzed, I wouldn’t want to be here. “I made a will and everything will go to Sharon if I die before her, so ultimately everything will go to the kids.”
Well, Sharon and Ozzy certainly know how to bring “Til Death Do Us Part” to a whole new level.
