Sharna Burgess Recalls Past Drug Use and Recalls the Exact Moment She Decided to Leave It Behind

Sharna Burgess is opening up about her meth addiction when she was just a teenager.

The 38-year-old newly engaged dancer got candid about her experience with drug abuse on the show’s most recent episode. something old podcast and shared how dancing helped her get through it.

During the discussion, Sharna told her fiancé Brian Austin Green and Randy Spelling that she discovered she was ready to take the first step away from drugs, which began after a knee injury, after a sign from the universe.

“This was at the end of probably being awake for three days. “We were sitting in the backyard of someone’s house and they were passing around a crack pipe with meth and we were all taking hits,” she shared. “[At that point, I] I had been smoking meth for a while. Not every day, but from time to time because it was new.”

Sharna added that she didn’t think she was particularly “hooked” on meth, but that “it was definitely a party drug at the time that was going around all the time, and I was partying pretty much, three or four days a week.”

“I was sitting there watching this pipe go by and the universe, God, whatever you call it, gave me this moment and I saw everyone sitting in front of me with complete clarity of what my future was going to be like,” Sharna explained to Brian and Randy. “Here I was 17, wide awake for three days, watching 20-somethings and maybe even 30-somethings go through this crack pipe hoping to get a little more out of it.”

“I realized that I came from being an Australian champion ballroom dancer, I represented my country at the World Championships. I was an athlete, the best in the country at that time, and due to a knee injury I fell,” Sharna said. “But I realized to what extent [fallen] and how much I needed to get back to that person, that this was not what I was meant for.”

She continued: “You had that moment on the floor, on your knees. ‘I’m here for a reason. I’m here for more.’ They gave me that blessing of a moment to see where she was. And that’s where everything changed for me and I understood it. “I need to dance in my life again.”
