Shankar Gadai has been a part of various Kabaddi tournaments at the district level and the districts he has represented include Ahmednagar, Palghar and Gondia. In 2022, Shankar participated in the 36th National Games of India and represented the Maharashtra team, which was held in the state of Gujarat. He was the team captain throughout the tournament and won the silver medal in the final. This was followed by the 70th Senior Men’s and Women’s Maharashtra State Kabaddi Championship in which she represented Ahmednagar district and also won the ‘Top Performer of the Tournament Award’.
In the same year, he represented the Maharashtra team in the 69th Senior National Kabaddi Championship and won a silver medal in the tournament. In 2022, Shankar Gadai was picked by the team ‘Gujarat Giants’ for the ninth season of Pro Kabaddi League for Rs 30.30 lakh. He played a total of 20 matches in the tournament and had a total tackle strike rate of 32% and a raid strike rate of 36%.
In 2023, Shankar Gadai participated in the 37th National Games in which he represented the Maharashtra team which won the bronze medal in the tournament final.
Shankar Gadai was selected by a Kabaddi team from Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad named ‘Telugu Titans’ for Rs 13 lakh for the 10th season of Pro Kabaddi League held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His average strike rate throughout the tournament was 37.5% and average out rate was 42.86%.

- No one in Shankar’s family was educated and all were from the working class. Shankar wanted to study more and also wanted to play Kabaddi. Although he started playing Kabaddi in his childhood; However, after completing 7th grade, he started attending the Kabaddi Academy located in his village and thus turned professional. Eventually, he started funding his own education and took admission in a college.
- They worked together in the fields and also learned Kabaddi. Shankar used to get free from the field at 5 in the evening and then go for his practice. He used to earn Rs 300 per day by working as a laborer in the sugarcane fields.
