Shaliza Dhami is an Indian Air Force officer. She made headlines after becoming the first woman officer to command a frontline IAF missile squadron deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) in March 2023.

Shaliza Dhami was born in 1982 (age 41 years; as of 2023) in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. After completing her high school at Government High School, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, she joined Khalsa College for Women, where she completed her 11th and 12th classes. Subsequently, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the same college. During her graduation, she joined the Air Wing of the National Cadet Corps (NCC). There he attended several camps organized by NCC and learned to fly gliders. While serving as a cadet in NCC, he was inspired by his instructor PP Singh to join the Indian Air Force. Talking about this in an interview, his parents said,
His decision to join the Air Wing of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) made all the difference. His mentor PP Singh, who was from the IAF, inspired him to try it and there was no looking back. NCC played an important role in his life and decision to join the Indian Air Force. We never stopped him from participating in NCC camps organized at various places. She really enjoyed her NCC camps and learned a lot.”
After completing her formal education, she joined the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Telangana.

His father, Harkesh Dhami, is a retired Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) employee. His mother, Dev Kumari, is a retired Water Supply and Sanitation Department officer. His brother, Sarvasuresh Dhami, is a professor of defense studies at a university in Imphal, Manipur.

livelihood
In 2003, he made his first solo flight in a HAL HPT-32 Deepak during training at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Telangana. After completing her training module, Shaliza Dhami was commissioned as a flying officer on a short service commission in the helicopter branch of the Indian Air Force on 20 December 2003.
She became a flight lieutenant on 20 December 2005. She received promotion and became a squadron leader on 20 December 2009. On 20 December 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Wing Commander. Subsequently, she joined the Flying Instructors School in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, from where she passed out as a qualified instructor and became the first Indian woman flying instructor. On 18 December 2018, she became the first IAF woman officer to be granted permanent commission. In August 2019, she was posted to Hindon Air Force Station, Ghaziabad, where she took command of a Chetak helicopter unit as a flight commander, becoming the first woman officer to hold the post.
Subsequently, he was posted to the Operations Branch of the Frontline Headquarters of the Indian Air Force. On 20 December 2019, she received promotion and became group captain; Shaliza was among the few IAF women officers selected to become a Group Captain. In March 2023, Shaliza Dhami became the first woman officer to command a missile squadron, a combat unit of the Indian Air Force deployed along the India-Pakistan border. As of March 2023, Shaliza has flown helicopters for approximately 2,800 hours.

- Despite pressure to get Shaliza admitted to a convent school, her father got her admitted to a government school. Talking about this, his father said in an interview,
I had a bicycle at that time. The parents of the children who study in the convent school come to drop them in luxurious cars. I decided that my children would study in the same school where children of common people like me study. If I had admitted her to a convent, she might have developed an inferiority complex. So, we admitted him to a government school. And look where she has reached today.”
