His first wife died of blood cancer in 2015. Shailbala and Rakesh fell in love during a news debate in 2020. She was very impressed by Rakesh’s intelligence. Soon after the news debate show, they started meeting each other frequently. In April 2022, they got engaged and decided to get married. In one of his Facebook posts, Rakesh Pathak announced his engagement with Shailbala Martin. He has written,
We have been friends for the last two years and during this time we realized that we both share similar thoughts. We often met during news debates.
