Manoj Kumar Sharma was born on Thursday, 3 July 1975 (age 48 years; as in 2023) in Bilgaon Chaudhary village, Morena, Madhya Pradesh, India. His zodiac sign is Cancer. Indian Police Service (IPS): A Success Story
According to sources, Manoj Sharma did not perform well academically. He achieved third division in classes 9 and 10 and managed to pass his class 11 exams by cheating in the final exams. However, while he was preparing to appear for his Class 12 board exams, a new Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) was appointed in Morena. This new SDM instructed schools to stop cheating during examinations. Due to this he was not able to copy, as a result he failed in all the subjects except Hindi. In an interview, Sharma said that he realized the strength of a civil services officer after this incident and was inspired to become a civil services officer by qualifying the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) examination. After completing his schooling, he moved to Gwalior, where he pursued his graduation and started preparing for the PCS exam. While preparing for the PCS exam, Manoj came to know that there are higher posts than the ones obtained after qualifying the PCS exam, especially the posts that individuals get after qualifying the UPSC exam. He started preparing for UPSC exam with a new focus. Since he belonged to a poor family, his family could not support him financially, as a result of which he started driving a tempo to sustain himself. After completing his graduation, he moved to Mukherjee Nagar, New Delhi, where he started preparing for UPSC. During its preparation, he used to earn extra income by walking dogs for Rs 100. 400. He later got a job as a peon in a library, which helped him prepare for the UPSC exam as the job gave him access to books that he would not have been able to buy earlier. He spent Rs. According to him, after clearing Mains, during the interview, a bench of four interviewers asked him questions. One of the interviewers questioned him saying that a person who failed in school and did not have a good command over English cannot be a suitable candidate for civil services. However, when he expressed his opinion about this, the interviewers supported him. In 2005, he reported to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, Telangana, where he took a police training module. He completed his training on 22 August 2005.
Career after becoming IPS officer
As an IPS officer, Sharma has served in various roles at various posts in Maharashtra. During his tenure as Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kolhapur, he played an important role in maintaining law and order situation by diligently handling the protests against illegal collection of toll tax on the highways as well as the increase in sugarcane prices. .
He has also participated in several anti-Naxal operations conducted in places like Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Gondia, Yavatmal, Bhandara and Nanded. In 2015, during the agitation in Maharashtra following the murder of Communist Party of India (CPI) member Govind Pansare, he played a key role in calming the situation and preventing it from getting out of control.
Subsequently, Manoj Kumar Sharma was posted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Later, he was posted in Mumbai as Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP).

- Before being inspired to become an IPS officer, Manoj wanted to become a clerk in the Madhya Pradesh government after completing his schooling. To do this he also planned to learn typewriting.
- After completing his schooling, Manoj came to Gwalior with just Rs. 500 and a bag of clothes.
