Sean Penn saves Golden Globes host after being stranded in the desert

Sean Penn and his publicist were “real-life heroes” when Variety’s Golden Globe pre-show host Marc Malkin’s car died, leaving him stranded in the desert.

According to multiple sources, the television personality and journalist was returning from the Palm Springs Film Festival last weekend when his electric car lost power.

Sources said Page six that Malkin had his car towed to a charging station in Cabazon, CA. When he arrived, he noticed that Penn and his publicist, Mara Buxbaum, were there loading their own cars. Penn and Buxbaum were also returning from Palm Springs.

They had been in town because Penn introduced Penelope Cruz before she was honored with the Variety Creative Impact in Acting Award. Malkin was also on the red carpet at that event.

Sean Penn pushes Marc Malkin’s car to a new charging station

Sean Penn and Mara Buxbaum managed to charge their vehicles, but Malkin’s vehicle would not start. One of the sources told the publication that his car wouldn’t charge because the battery was completely dead.

Somehow, Malkin realized that a different type of charging station could give his car the jolt it needed. Unable to get another crane, he put it in neutral, jumped out and hoped he could direct it to a new pump.

Suddenly, Buxbaum appeared at his side and asked if he needed someone to push his car. When Malkin looked in the rearview mirror, he saw that Penn had already started pushing. A source said Malkin was surprised to see an Oscar winner roll up his sleeves and save the day.
