So the script changed a lot from the first script I got to the movie we made. I would say it’s completely different. We sat a few times, [directors] Matt [Bettinelli-Olpin] and taylor [Gillett] and me, then with [screenwriters] Jamie [Vanderbilt] and the guy [Busick] Because I really, really want to make sure that we explore more of Sam’s soul, we get to know her more deeply, because that’s why I wanted to play Sam in the first place. The reason I was attracted to her in Scream 5 was, ‘God, there’s so much potential here. Where is she going? I want to make sure that in the sixth movie we see more layers of her. Not only the strong girl, but also the sister who protects all those walls. I was like, ‘What happens when those walls come down? We didn’t get a chance to see that in season five, so I thought, ‘I want to make sure she feels like a more down-to-earth, holistic person. How are we going to explore all of this, all these relationships and what happened to her in season five?
I think the great thing about Matt and Tyler is that when I first talked to them after reading the first draft, I said, ‘These are my concerns and I really want the audience to know more about it. Sam’, you know? The fans fell in love with so many characters, you need to give them a lot, open your heart to them, let them let you in, I really want that, they 100% agree. And they want all the characters to do the same. They want those quiet moments, they want these four core people to have this close friendship pulse, they want a glimpse of these four people who have been through this much trauma and how they deal with it. their own way.
Forgive me, because the fifth movie is like — in a way, in the Scream series, the first four are unbelievable, and Wes has his stuff and takes on the role of Scream Scream, and in the fifth movie, being the first without him, we had the spirit to scream, but I also felt like there were a lot of hearts. It’s a very emotional movie, a rarity in Scream, and I think that’s great. That’s what drew me to the project, its heart and its emotions, because it’s a personal connection that I want to keep in the sixth film. I think that’s what Guy and Jamie did really well, they did, and I’m very pleased with the film we made.
