ambitious robin debut The Dark Knight Returns Ricardo López Ortiz has finally delighted her with a whole new piece of art. Carrie Kelley may not be your typical Robin, but Ortiz has done a great job of showing that she deserves the same respect as her main Earth counterparts.
Kelly’s first visit to the DC Universe was part of Frank Miller’s famous story, The Dark Knight Returns. After being rescued by the elderly Bruce Wayne, Kelly puts on her old clothes again, buys a costume, and tries to be Batman’s new Robin. Her endless resourcefulness and smart thinking have saved Batman’s life more than once. Despite Bruce’s initial skepticism, Carrie quickly proves herself to be a resilient and effective partner, and becomes an integral part of Bruce Wayne’s second act.
But unlike the other heroes wearing Robin’s cape, Carrie’s adventures are largely confined to Robin’s story. The Dark Knight Returns universe. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have fans. Illustrator Ricardo López Ortiz Posted a commission on Twitter to show Carrie Kelley what it must be like.Robin’s The Dark Knight Returns Never has she looked as heroic as here. Standing on the back of a giant Batman smashed into concrete, Robin has a mischievous look on her face and is ready to fight any villain or mutant gang member who gets in her way. Carrie may be small in stature compared to the show’s Bruce, but she matches his intensity as the two prepare to clean up Gotham no matter the cost.
Ortiz’s post received over 10,000 likes and even thousands of retweets. Users wish they were the owner of the product The Dark Knight Returns Fan art, even expressing envy to the lucky fans who own the original works. Ortiz’s art manages to capture much of Frank Miller’s world and adapt it to Ortiz’s own style. While there’s a lot to be said about the piece, the way it surprisingly portrays Kelly is remarkable.
Carrie is a big part of it The Dark Knight Returns franchise, but aside from some stories set in her universe, she doesn’t appear as much as the other Robbins. As a result, she is often left out of the conversation when it comes to who is the best Robin for Batman. But Ortiz’s work brought Kelly back into the limelight and showed that she deserves to be taken seriously. Carrie is more than just a companion for motivational purposes, she’s also a companion that goes head-to-head with one of the most brutal versions of Batman. expect, The Dark Knight Returns Fan art has gone a long way to proving that Kelly is just as good a Robin as any of Marvel’s other Boys or Girls.
