Sanjay Yadav was born on Wednesday, 10 May 1995 (age 25 years; as in 2020) in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. His full name is Ramsingh Sanjay Yadav. Their zodiac sign is Taurus. In 2000, when Sanjay was 5 years old, his family relocated to Hosur, an industrial city in Tamil Nadu, in search of better work opportunities. He studied at Maharishi Vidya Mandir School until 2010 and then joined RV Government Boys High Secondary School, Hosur for the latter part of his schooling. He used to play tennis ball cricket in his school and also received invitations to play in various cricket tournaments around Chennai. Sanjay’s father was a daily wage laborer and was the only person responsible for bringing food on the table for his family. Due to the poor financial condition of his family, Sanjay did not want to pursue cricket professionally. However, his cricket coach Premnath saw special talent in him and asked him to join his Future India Cricket Academy in Hosur. The coach was aware of Sanjay’s financial condition, so he allowed Sanjay to practice in his academy without charging any fees from him. His cricket talent got him a seat at Loyola College, Chennai, where he studied BSc (Statistics) from 2015 to 2018. Later, his all-round performances in various domestic tournaments including the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) gave him stellar performances. And got him his first IPL contract with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2017.

Subsequently, he was named in Tamil Nadu’s T20 squad for the Inter-State Twenty20 Tournament 2017 and on 3 February 2017, he played his first T20 match for Tamil Nadu against Kerala in Chennai. Due to his all-round performances in the TNPL 2017 and Inter-State T20 tournaments, he got his first IPL contract worth Rs 10 lakh with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of IPL 2017. There were a lot of spin-bowling all-rounders in Tamil Nadu’s T20 team, due to which Sanjay got very few matches to play. Seeing this, Sanjay decided to start playing for the Meghalaya cricket team. On 9 December 2019, Sanjay made a solid Ranji Trophy debut for Meghalaya in the match against Nagaland, taking 9 wickets and scoring 61 runs. His bowling figures of 9 wickets for 52 runs were the third best bowling figures by an Indian in first-class cricket history.

Sanjay finished his first Ranji Trophy season with 55 wickets and 603 runs. These were the second best all-round performance figures by any cricketer in the history of Ranji Trophy. Subsequently, he played several tournaments for Meghalaya and showcased his talent with both bat and ball. Sanjay’s performances in domestic cricket caught the attention of Sunrisers Hyderabad, who later bought him for Rs 20 lakh in the players’ auction ahead of IPL 2020.
