Jasmine Lamboria is an Indian boxer who competes in the women’s 60 kg weightlifting competition. She qualified for the Commonwealth Games 2022 by defeating Indian boxer Parveen Hooda in the trial bout.

She became interested in boxing while she was studying in school. He then started boxing training under his uncles Sandeep Lamboria and Parvinder Singh Lamboria. In 2006 he participated in the Commonwealth Games. Later, her uncles started a boxing academy named Lamboriya in Bhiwani and she joined the first batch of the training academy. In 2021, he participated in the Asian Boxing Championships, Dubai. She defeated the Mongolian boxer 4-1 and won the bronze medal. He won a silver medal at the Boxam International Boxing Tournament in 2021. The same year, he tested positive for COVID-19, which caused him various fitness problems and increased weight from 57 kg to 63 kg. Recalling those days in an interview, he said,

I worked hard and reduced my weight from 63 kg to 60 kg. I had a lot of problems. I was not able to train properly for five-six months. My hemoglobin had decreased. That was a difficult period for me. But after a year, I am feeling fine and have no fitness issues.

In 2022, she became eligible to represent India at the Commonwealth Games.

  • Jasmine Lamboria was born and brought up in Bhiwani, which is called the ‘Mini Cuba of India’ as Bhiwani has many boxing clubs. Jasmine’s interest in boxing arose after the historic victory of Indian boxers Vijender Singh and Mary Kom in the London Olympics in 2012. Talking about this during an interview, he said,

    Since I am from Bhiwani, I always heard stories about Vijender Singh and then there was Mary Kom’s medal. Earlier, because my uncle was into boxing, I had watched video clips of him in fights. When I was growing up there was a lot of talk about boxing around me. I think I was meant to be a boxer.”

  • When she was studying in 10th grade, she first told her mother that she was interested in boxing. Then his mother said that she would ask her maternal uncles (boxers) about this. When his uncle Sandeep was asked about this during an interview, he said,

    I asked Jasmine if she was serious about boxing. She was very shy, but that day she seemed determined. I told him and his mother that I would get him into boxing.

  • In an interview, Jasmine told that she had to convince her grandfather to allow her to pursue a career in boxing. His grandfather, Chandrabhan, an army man and wrestler, gave him permission and then his uncle started training him in boxing.
