Sanjay Karol was born on Wednesday, 23 August 1961 (age 61 years; as in 2022) in village Garli, Dehra Gopipur, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Virgo. He did his schooling from St. Edward’s School, Shimla in 1977. He earned a bachelor’s degree in History from Government College, Sanjauli. In 1985, he earned a law degree from the Faculty of Law, Himachal Pradesh University. In 1986, he enrolled as an advocate and started practicing in various courts including the Honorable Supreme Court of India in constitutional, taxation, corporate, criminal and civil matters. During his practice, he was counsel in Inter-State Water Disputes (BBMB Project) in the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.

  • In 2017, he ordered the construction of public toilets on national highways for people traveling by public buses. He also declared that forcing people to urinate or defecate in public due to the absence of public toilets is a violation of their dignity.
  • In 2017, when he was serving in the Himachal Pradesh High Court, he delivered judgments on issues such as removing discrimination against married women in employment matters, checking illegal mining and protecting rivers from illegal operation of dams.   • His name was recommended for the post of Supreme Court judge on 13 December 2022, but there was no confirmation from the central government.
