Sandeep Singh is an Indian hockey legend who is globally known as one of the best drag-flickers in the world. He is also a penalty corner specialist. He is the man who brought the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup to India in 2009 under his captaincy. He is an Indian field hockey player and Deputy Superintendent of Police in Haryana Police. On 13 July 2018, his biopic “Soorma” was released in India, starring Diljit Dosanjh in the role of Indian hockey star Sandeep Singh.

Sandeep Singh’s full name is Sandeep Singh Bhinder. He is also called Flicker Singh. He is a 37-year-old former Indian field hockey player who was born on 27 February 1986 in Shahabad, Haryana, India into a Punjabi family. He completed his schooling from Shahbad, Haryana and later graduated in BA from Kurukshetra University. He has also been an alumnus of Khalsa College, Patiala. He was fond of playing hockey since childhood and was attracted by his elder brother’s hockey kit and attire.

Sandeep Singh learned to play hockey from his elder brother Bikramjit Singh and started playing for domestic hockey teams. He made his international debut at a very young age in 2004 at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, Kuala Lumpur. He was performing quite well in the Indian hockey team, but a shooting incident in August 2006 forced him to take bed rest for months. These were the worst days of his life but he wanted to make a comeback in the Indian team. He improved his health and returned in 2008 in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, where he became the top scorer with 9 goals. He became the captain in 2009 and in the same year, under his captaincy, India won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. In 2012, he broke Dhanraj Pillai’s record of most goals (121). At present he is DSP in Haryana Police.

Case registered for harassing woman
On December 30, 2022, a case was registered against him at Chandigarh Police Station for harassing a female junior athletics coach. She said that he had been harassing her since February 2022. She further said that he constantly messaged her on social media and even touched her inappropriately. In a press conference at the office of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), he demanded resignation from the post of Sports Minister of Haryana. He said,
He messaged me on Instagram and said that my National Sports Certificate was pending and he wanted to meet in this regard. Unfortunately, my certificate has been lost by my federation and I am taking it up with the concerned authorities.
Later Sandeep submitted his resignation from the post of Sports Minister of Haryana. In an interview, he denied all the allegations and said that it was just to tarnish his image.
