SAG-AFTRA announces end to strike after approving deal with studios – this is when it officially ends!

SAG-AFTRA is back to work after a successful strike!

On Wednesday (Nov. 8), it was announced that the actors’ union had reached a tentative agreement with the studios after 118 days of picketing.

Later that day, the union confirmed that its agreement had been approved by the bargaining committee. That means the end of the strike is just around the corner.

SAG-AFTRA shared the exciting news on Instagram, writing, “THE #SagAftraStrike IS OVER.”

“We are delighted and proud to tell you that today your Television and Theater Negotiating Committee voted unanimously to approve a tentative agreement with the AMPTP,” the union wrote. “As of 12:01 a.m. PT on November 9, our strike is officially suspended and all picket sites are closed. “We will be in touch in the coming days with information about celebration gatherings across the country.”

The statement goes on to say: “In a contract valued at more than $1 billion, we have reached an agreement of extraordinary scope that includes ‘above the standard’ minimum compensation increases, unprecedented consent and compensation provisions that will protect members of the AI ​​threat, and for the first time establishes a streaming participation bonus. Our Pension and Health limits have been substantially increased, which will add much-needed value to our plans. Additionally, the agreement includes numerous improvements for multiple categories, including huge compensation increases for background artists and critical contract provisions that protect diverse communities.”

“We have reached a contract that will allow SAG-AFTRA members of all ranks to build sustainable careers. “Many thousands of artists will benefit now and in the future from this work,” the union promised. Additional details will be available once the SAG-AFTRA National Board completes a review.

Meanwhile, the union expressed gratitude to “our union brothers, the workers who power this industry, for the sacrifices they have made in supporting our strike and that of the Writers Guild of America. We stand together in solidarity and will be there for you when you need us.”

“Thank you all for your dedication, your commitment and your solidarity during this strike. It is thanks to YOU ​​that these improvements were possible,” they wrote.

The news comes more than a month after the WGA ended its strike after just under 150 days.
