News Ryan Toby
Many people still remember Ryan Toby (@ryantobyryan)’s breakout performance in the 1993 movie “Sister Act 2”. Everyone remembers the scene in the school choir when he killed it during the “Oh Happy Day” performance, in which he played the talented Ahmal in the class.
In addition, he continued to achieve great fame throughout his career due to his talent in singing and composing. He is also known to us as a member of City High, a Grammy Award-nominated band. In 2001, they released “Caramel” and “What Would You Do”, two of their most popular songs.
Since that time, Ryan has written and produced music for some of the top artists in the industry, including Usher, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, Will Smith, and many more. In addition to collaborating with some of his artists, he will also be releasing his own songs. We spoke with him to learn more about his next projects, his thoughts on contemporary R&B, whether he believes City High will reunite and more.
One of my favorite memories on set is when Whoopie stood up for me when the producers refused to give me days off to recuperate after I sprained my ankle during my final week of filming. LAUGH. Whoopie didn’t have it!
