Ryan Duffy Obituary – Mississippi State baseball player Ryan Duffy has died at the age of 37. Duffy graduated from Barron Collier High School and received a scholarship to Mississippi State University. Duffy was a high school catcher who was one of the best in the nation. He was awarded team MVP and earned All-District and All-Southwest Florida All-Star team honors.

The Mississippi State Baseball Facebook page confirmed the death of former baseball player Ryan Duffy on December 19th. Ryan’s family has not released any information about his death. Several of his followers offered their condolences in the comments section of the Facebook post. Many others remembered seeing Ryan take over the baseball diamond. “He brought so much fun to every game at State,” remarked one fan. He was unique.” The Duffy family was also treated.
However, some of his supporters on Xu (formerly Twitter) claimed that his death was related to his accident in 2010. Ryan had a diving accident in 2010 that left him a paraplegic from the neck down. Ryan was vacationing at a Key West hotel when disaster struck. He plunged off the pier into the Atlantic Ocean, but the water was too shallow, so he broke his neck. In the accident, Duffy injured six vertebrae, breaking three and fracturing three. At the time, it was reported that Duffy was recovering at Joe DiMaggio Hospital in Miami.
Ryan sued the Key West hotel a year after the tragedy because the general manager failed to warn customers about the dangerously shallow, murky water of the hotel’s ‘dimly lit’ dock. Duffy attended Mississippi State University after receiving a Bright Futures scholarship. Ryan redshirted his first season at Mississippi. He appeared in five games for the University in 2007, making his college debut against South Carolina. He appeared in 42 of 56 games in 2008, hitting .306 with seven home runs and 25 RBI. Duffy assumed the role of lead catcher and later that year played summer league baseball with the DuPage County Dragons.
Ryan started 27 games in his fourth season and had a career-best .339 batting average, along with 25 runs scored, 42 hits, 10 home runs and 33 RBI. Ryan’s goal of becoming a professional baseball player was dashed after the tragedy. However, as the accolades show, Duffy was a significant player, so much so that many of his fans remember his performances.
