Russell Simmons’ daughters speak out against him and accuse him of verbal abuse

Russell Simmons’ strained relationship with his daughters Aoki Lee Simmons and Ming Lee Simmons went public on Father’s Day.

The legendary 65-year-old music executive has been accused of verbal abuse and erratic behavior by his ex-wife Kimora Lee Simmons and their two daughters.

It all started when Ming shared a photo of his mom to his Instagram Stories on Sunday (June 19) and captioned it “Happy Father’s Day.”

Russell apparently responded by sharing a cryptic message that read: “Stop telling fathers they should have fought harder to see their children and start asking mothers why they had to fight.”

Russell’s daughter, Aoki, addressed the situation in a message on Instagram, as well as a video post.

“My father is not well, he has needed help for years and he does not accept that he refuses to admit that he is not himself,” Aoki wrote. “She has threatened and harassed my sister, my grandmother, she has harassed my grandmother in the middle of the night with health problems, she sent a man to my sister’s apartment at 2 in the morning to scare her. He lashes out at ANYONE who doesn’t say ‘oh Russell, it’s all good’. Well, it’s not good. If I “never get a hot job again” as he threatens, I’ll be a lawyer, I guess, working in criminal justice. Sure I love my job, but if he takes it away from me, I won’t die. You don’t threaten my sister, my grandmother and my mother and say ‘who will believe you? I’m Russell Simmons, no one thinks I’m crazy, well he is.”

Aoki also shared FaceTime videos of Russell screaming. She wrote: “This is not someone who will accept help. This is just a screen recording, sorry I don’t always remember to hit ‘record’ when I call my friends, my boyfriend, anyone, for a chance to threaten, swear and freak out.”

On his Instagram Stories, Aoki added, “Some of us think he has a mental illness or is experiencing something close to dementia, he really acts like he hates it and doesn’t see his kids often. Before his troubles with the media, he was truly the best dad ever and a great co-dad. He and my mom were best friends. We all defended him against anything, and then suddenly he turned on ANYONE who let him attack. It’s a really scary change to see.”

Kimora released a statement on her Instagram Stories.

“I am so sorry to have to do this. But this man has been threatening the lives of my children. I’m listening to a lot more now. We will not be intimidated, threatened or scared. Who screwed up?!” she said.

Two years ago, Russell and Kimora were embroiled in a legal battle.
