He has participated in many Olympic Games and World Championships as well. Karpati, along with his team, won gold medals at the 1948, 1952, 1956 and 1960 Summer Olympics, and at the 1953, 1954, 1955, 1957 and 1958 World Fencing Championships.
He also won the silver medal at the 1959 World Fencing Championships and the bronze medal at the 1961 World Fencing Championships together with his team.
In addition, Rudolf Karpati individually won gold medals at the 1956 and 1960 Summer Olympics and the 1954 and 1959 World Fencing Championships.
He also won the silver medals at the 1955 and 1957 World Fencing Championships and the bronze medal at the 1953 World Fencing Championships. In addition, Rudolf Karpati was a member of the Hungarian Fencing Federation from 1961 to 1991.
After retiring from competitions, in 1977, he was able to become president of the Budapest Fencing Federation. He and he also administrator together with the Fédération Internationale d’Escrime.
