Ricardo Cruciani, a former neurosurgeon and alleged sex offender, died Monday morning on Rikers Island when police found him in the shower area with a towel wrapped around his neck. Ricardo Cruciani, 68, is scheduled to be sentenced on September 14 for allegedly injuring at least six patients, according to the New York Times. Prosecutors allege his method was to make patients addicted to opioids before informing them that he would only provide the drugs in exchange for illegal services. Prosecutors believe he hunted victims in New York, Hopewell and Philadelphia for more than 15 years.
Ricardo Cruciani’s death
According to Fox News, Ricardo Cruciani is said to have taken a shower at Rikers prison at 4:23 a.m. According to reports, an officer found his body in an unconscious state at 5:35 pm. He died about an hour later. Cruciani’s death is still under investigation, according to Louis Molina, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Corrections.
He declared:
“We will be opening a preliminary internal investigation to determine the circumstances of his death.” Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
According to the New York Post, Ricardo Cruciani, who pleaded guilty to 12 misdemeanor counts of misconduct, planned to fight the sentence after being convicted. He faces the possibility of life in prison.
What exactly are the charges against Rudolph Cruciani?
Cruciani targeted women in multiple jobs and at hospitals, including Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L Bragg Jr. Bragg said in an official press release:
“Ricardo Cruciani deliberately took advantage of the suffering of the victims and used his powers as a doctor.”
Conditions at Rikers Island are heartbreaking, deplorable and unacceptable for both those detained and those expected to be imprisoned.

He continued:
“When we go to doctors for help, we want them to respect our bodies and our health, but Dr. Cruciani has completely failed in that commitment.” Dr. Cruciani leaves behind six survivors who are now suffering from serious illnesses and years of stress.”
Cruciani’s attorney, Fred Sosinsky, said his client was unjustly accused.
According to Sosinski:
“In the end, it appears that the cumulative weight of the six plaintiffs prevailed, rather than a fair assessment of each of their questionable claims.”
He continued:
“However, we are confident that the trial court made a number of legal errors that we would like to be corrected in the appellate courts.”
Although Cruciani’s death appears to be a suicide, investigators have yet to confirm it.
