In an adorable new piece of fan art, Cassandra Kane’s Red Hood and Batgirl stick together in the skies above Gotham. Artist Nina Linovna captures two of the most ferocious members of the Bat family in her spare time, exploring a relationship that hasn’t been fully explored in the official comics.
Cassandra Cain is the daughter of Lady Shiva, trained from birth to be the ultimate assassin. After breaking up with her father, female assassin David Kane, Cassandra Kane went to Gotham City in the “No Man’s Land” spin-off, eventually taking the name Batgirl and becoming the first person to be titled Batgirl. This character was marginalized during the early part of DC’s new 52nd era until endless border, fully restore the Bat family and share adventures with Batgirls Stephanie Brown and Barbara Gordon. Cassandra has been a loner for most of her career, like her Bat family member, Red Hood. Second-generation Robin Red Hood has been outlawed for years after returning from the dead, and it wasn’t until last year that he really found his way back to Batman. He struggles to reintegrate into the Bat family, giving up the use of guns and deadly force.
In an Instagram post, artist Nina Linovna introduced the photo with the caption “Batsiblings”. The photo was taken at dawn and shows Cassandra Kane in full uniform sitting on the roof of a building with her red hood removed. Any context they can think of is not provided, nor does it require any – it’s just a cute moment between friends. The photo was enthusiastically received by fans, with more than 8000 likes; Selected comments compliment the composition of the painting. Fans point out that despite their resemblance, Cassandra Kane and Red Hood rarely see each other, which makes their close relationship particularly touching.
So far, Red Hood and Cassandra Kane have rarely interacted with each other, which is odd given how much they have in common. Both come from difficult backgrounds: Cain was born the world’s top assassin, while Red Hood is an orphan who must fight to survive on the streets of Gotham. Both have gone through a dark past and found purpose in fighting alongside Batman. Red Hood and Cassandra Kane didn’t always have a good relationship with Batman and people spent a lot of time trying to win him back. However, Batman believes in both of them – they still have kindness inside of them – and his beliefs are largely true.
Cassandra Kane and Red Hood are going to be one of the most exciting teams in the Bat family, but the creators seem hesitant to rally them together.
