Facts/General Knowledge

  • He is also called Ravi Krishna.
  • Ravi Rachin was Ravindra’s first cricket coach. In an interview, Krishnamurthy revealed that he spent hours figuring out the right techniques to train his son during his early years. He said,

Our coaching approach was not focused on emulating any particular player or regional style. Instead, we took inspiration from the techniques and approaches of cricketing talents from around the world. Rachin watched countless hours of cricket and had iconic cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Adam Gilchrist among others during his upbringing. The process involved many iterations to ensure that he understood the nuances of the game.”

  • In an interview, Rachin revealed that during the winter season in New Zealand, Ravi traveled to India with Rachin so that he could train properly. During those trips to India, Rachin trained under local trainers in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Anantapur.
  • Contrary to the widely believed story that Ravi named his son Rachin by combining the names of Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, Ravi revealed in an interview that this was not the case and that the name was suggested by Rachin’s mother. Was because he liked it. Many years later he realized that it was a coincidental combination of the names of Rahul and Sachin. He said,

When Rachin was born, my wife suggested the name, and we didn’t spend much time discussing it. The name sounded good, was easy to pronounce and was short, so we decided to adopt it. It was only after a few years that we realized that this name was a mixture of Rahul and Sachin’s names. He was not named with the intention of making our child a cricketer or anything like that.
