Bhupinder Singh was born as Bhupinder Soin on Tuesday, 6 February 1940 (age 82 at the time of death) in Amritsar, Punjab, British India. His zodiac sign was Aquarius. In his childhood, Bhupinder Singh was given music lessons by his father, who was a musician. However, he hated music because he intended that music would never respect him. While talking to the media, Bhupinder Singh told that his father and elder brother were musicians at home. He said,

There was so much music in my house that I never wanted to be associated with music. My father Natha Singh was a music professor in Amritsar. My elder brother played musical instruments from a young age. I felt that if I got involved in music, I would never get respect.

In 1962, Bhupinder Singh was heard singing songs by music director Madan Mohan at a dinner party organized by Satish Bhatia, producer of All India Radio, at his home in Delhi. Bhupinder was doing a music show in the party. During the party, Madan Mohan called Bhupinder to Mumbai. In 1964, she made her singing debut with famous Indian singers Mohammed Rafi, Talat Mehmood and Manna Dey in the song ‘Hoke Mazboor Mujhe Usne Bulaya Hoga’ from the film Haqeeqat. This song was offered to Bhupinder by Madan Mohan. Before venturing into the music industry, Bhupinder Singh was a singer and guitarist at All India Radio and Doordarshan in Delhi under Satish Bhatia, producer of Akashvani Delhi. He worked in Akashvani till 1964. In 1966, he got the opportunity to sing a solo song in the film Aakhri Khat. Later, she sang several duets with leading Indian singers Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi such as “Duniya Chhote Yaar Na Chhote” and “Aane Se Uske Aaye Bahaar”. In 1968, he released his first long-running personal music album. In 1978, he incorporated Spanish guitar, bass and drums into some of his ghazals and released a long-playing music album. In 1980, Bhupinder Singh released a long-running music album titled Woh Jo Shayar Tha, with Indian lyricist Gulzar.

In 1988, he lent his voice to poet-king Bahadur Shah Zafar’s ghazal ‘Ya Mujhe Afsar-e-Shahana Banaya Hota’ at the request of veteran Indian singer Jagjit Singh. This ghazal was later introduced by Gulzar in his serial Mirza Ghalib, which was broadcast on Doordarshan in the same year. Later, she lent her voice to many popular Bollywood songs, such as “Dil Dhunta Hai,” “Do Deewane Shehr Mein,” “Naam Gum Jayega,” “Karoge Yaad To,” “Meetha Bol Bole,” “Kabhi Kisi Ko Mukkammal.” , “Kisi Nazar Ko Tera Intezaar Aaj Bhi,” and “Ek Akela Hai Shahr Mein.”
