Rashid Naz was born Abdul Rashid Naz on Thursday, 9 September 1948 (age 73 at the time of death) in Peshawar, North-West Frontier Province (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Pakistan. He studied till 10th standard in a local school in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

It was later released in English and 10 other Indian languages, Assamese, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. The film was first screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 2019, where it won the ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Medal. However, the film was released in theaters in 2023 after his death.
