Rani Nagar was born on Friday, 19 December 1986 (age 35 years as 2020) in Badarpur village, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Dadri, Uttar Pradesh. Their zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He completed his formal education from Uttar Pradesh.

His father’s name is Ratan Singh Nagar. She is also known to be close to her sister Reema Nagar, who stayed with her during the last two years of her tenure as an IAS officer. Reema Nagar has also been in the news for raising concerns regarding her sister’s safety. It is said that his brother lives abroad.

Rani Nagar passed the UPSC IAS exam in 2014 and was later allotted Haryana cadre. She has worked in many senior positions in various departments of Haryana Government. On 4 May 2020, he submitted a resignation letter citing threat to his life on government duty and resigned from his post.
Controversy and resignation
Right from the beginning, Rani Nagar has always been vocal about all the misbehavior she faced during her career. His career has been full of controversies. Here is a list of some of the incidents that he has declared and reported in the six years of his IAS career.
- In 2015, when she was posted as assistant-commissioner in Ambala, she reported that she faced sexual harassment by her drivers.
- In the same year, she also declared that a senior IAS officer made obscene gestures at her.
- In 2016, when she was serving as DM of Kosli, she had accused her superiors of sexual harassment and misconduct.
- In the same year, he narrated an incident in which an auto driver tried to kidnap him.
- In December 2017, when she was serving as the sub-divisional magistrate of Dabwali in Sirsa district, she had filed a case against a mysterious man who had tried to encroach into her house.
However, the most controversial allegation that caught people’s attention was the case of Rani Nagar accusing senior 1985-batch IAS Sunil K Gulati of misbehavior and harassment when he was working with her during the year 2018.

However, Gulati denied the allegations and said that Nagar seemed ‘under some stress’ and was complaining because he had ‘deliberately neglected’ his orders about attending meetings. He said that he has called the Chief Secretary of the state and informed about the matter and he is ready to face any investigation. Later, the investigation committee gave a clean chit to IAS Gulati. On 17 April 2020, she released a video on her Facebook account, Rani Nagar said, “I am posted as Additional Director in the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Chandigarh. For the last 2 years I have been living with my sister Reema Nagar on rent in a one room guest house in UT (Chandigarh). Even after asking for a house several times, I was not given a house. It is very difficult for two women to live in the same room, for which we were facing a lot of problems. I have registered a case (case no: 3573/2019) with the Chief Judicial Magistrate against Sunil K Gulati and some people of Chandigarh Police. Our lives are in danger if we stay here during lockdown. Hereby, I request the audience to submit their testimony in the CJI court under Case No: 3573 of 2019 if we go missing or lose our lives.
On 23 April, she published a post on her Facebook account stating that she would resign from her post in the Indian Administrative Services once the coronavirus lockdown is lifted. Later, on 4 May 2020, she submitted her resignation and moved to her home in Ghaziabad.

Facts/General Knowledge
- Many big politicians have reacted to Rani Nagar’s resignation. Commenting on this, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala termed her resignation as ‘a shocking incident’, moreover, he criticized the Haryana government for failing to protect IAS Rani Nagar. BSP chief Mayawati also expressed concern about the safety of the female bureaucrat by tweeting.
The woman from Haryana left the job, due to ‘threat to her life while on the job’ and ultimately had to return from her job to her home in UP, which is very sad and very unfortunate. Why such styles of government and other companies in the matter of women’s safety and respect?

- On May 12, 2020, at a Ghaziabad residence in Rani Nagar, a masked man wearing a helmet and dark glasses repeatedly kicked the main door while trying to break it.
