Rakesh Raghunathan started his career at Indian multinational Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 2003 as a Senior Contract Admin. He worked there for more than two years and left the job in 2005. In 2008, he worked as a business intern for three months at Standard Chartered Bank in India. In 2010, he started a food and beverage kiosk chain named ‘Petawrap’ that sells vegetarian and non-vegetarian wraps.

In 2009, he created his YouTube channel ‘Rakesh Raghunathan’, where he uploads cookery videos. In 2019, he along with his mother started a cookery web series named ‘Ammavum Naanum’, in which his mother cooks while he does the commentary. He not only shares the recipes in the web series but also narrates the culinary history and old stories related to the dishes. The web series premiered on his YouTube channel ‘Rakesh Raghunathan’. In 2012, Rakesh Raghunathan, along with his wife, started a blog website named ‘Puliyogare Travels’, where he writes about cuisines from different regions (primarily South Indian regions).
