Hillsong Church has come under intense scrutiny in recent years, particularly for the conduct of its famous leaders. The firing of Carl Lentz appears in a Discovery+ docuseries, Hillsong: an exposed megachurch. Carl was the senior pastor at Hillsong NYC, a church that has attracted celebrities like Kyrie Irving, Kelvin Durant, and Selena Gomez.

Lentz established himself as a famous preacher through his close relationship with Justin Bieber. Justin chose Lentz as his spiritual guide, elevating the pastor and Hillsong to new celebrity heights. The tattooed and fashion-conscious Lentz redefined the church leader, influencing others to follow his modern style.

His world collapsed after an affair he had with New York actress Ranin Karim came to light.

Lentz lives in Florida with his family and reportedly wants to start a career in entertainment.

Days before his termination from Hillsong Church, Lentz sold his $1.5 million home in Montclair, New Jersey. The family moved from the East Coast to Los Angeles, where they paid their rent in part thanks to a $100,000 donation from Tyler Perry.

In July 2021, Lentz moved the family into a $70,000 home south of Tampa, Florida. The house is a long way from her luxurious home in Los Angeles.

In March 2022, Carl was seen at a Florida airport looking markedly different from before. The previously clean-cut pastor had long, messy curly hair and looked thinner. He had also ditched his favorite low-cut tops for a black tank top that he wore with light blue jeans and black cowboy boots.

Carl’s wife, Laura, dropped him off at the airport before walking their son to school. After resigning from Hillsong Church, Laura changed her name to Interior Designer and launched her own business.

Lentz, however, hasn’t made any career changes since leaving Hillsong. Sun reported that Carl took a month off to work on his mental health before moving into the entertainment industry.

“He knew he had to get help and now that he has it he wants to use all the attention he’s received to further his career,” a source said. “His name of him is bigger than ever and he knows it. He’s trying to use that to his advantage.”

However, the source added that few executives had shown willingness to work with Carl. Lentz reportedly prefers to host a faith-based Netflix series, but would settle for a reality show.

“He was counting on some of his famous friends to help him with this in Los Angeles, but after this cheating scandal, no one is taking his calls,” the source said. “Money and fame are his motivators,” another source added.

The Discovery+ documentary will likely reveal more details about her romance with Ranin Karim.

Ranin Karim is likely to reveal more details about his relationship with Carl Lentz. “It was the most toxic thing I’ve ever had to deal with,” Ranin says in a trailer for the show.

karim spoke with the united states sun about it, revealing that Lentz approached her in May 2020 at Domino Park in Brooklyn. She flattered and flirted with Ranin, telling him that the most beautiful women came from the Middle East, where she draws part of her heritage from.

“He told me his name was Carl, but that’s it, he didn’t tell me his last name,” Ranin said. “And he told me that his job was as a sports agent.” Carl told Ranin that he didn’t want her to Google him, but rather that they meet in person.

Carl admitted that he was married for almost two decades and had three children, which made Ranin curious about this mysterious man. He used his phone number to find out his identity and couldn’t believe what he found.

“He said that he had never strayed from his marriage before and that he felt guilty,” she said. “But he told me that when he met me, God told him to tell me that I need to know my worth and that there is something special about me… whatever, whatever.”

Even when Karim tried to walk away from the relationship, the affair continued. “Every time he said he was done, he would come back and haunt me,” he said.

Karim said that Carl lied when he made it seem like his relationship with her was just an affair. When the couple broke up, Lentz told Karim that she was the only person he had ever loved outside of her marriage. She said:

“I wasn’t there just for the sex, we both found solace and a deep and special connection with each other. I am very hurt because we both feel the same for each other. He loves me and I love him. It was a love relationship that was not planned. It wasn’t just a fling or just a sexual relationship.”

Lentz faced allegations of sexual assault by the family’s former nanny in June 2021.

Months after his firing from Hillsong Church, Leona Kimes, a former nanny in Lentz’s home, filed sexual assault allegations against the disgraced pastor. “I also felt very ashamed and was told not to say anything or tell anyone,” she wrote in Half.

Leona explained that she started working at the Lentz home in 2011, where she often spent more than 19 hour days. Her job was to take care of the children, and the house before Lentz began requesting massages and foot massages.

Kimes said she didn’t know how to react when Carl started touching her sexually. “I was physically violated by her unwanted and repeated sexual touching of my private areas,” she wrote. “I froze. Every time, I froze.”

Laura reportedly found out about Carl’s behavior and addressed the issue by blaming Leona. “I was blamed and silenced,” she said. “I was the problem.” In 2017, Lentz took responsibility for his actions, but refused to confess to church leaders. The couple advised her to repent before sending her away.

“I had been fired from his family, but not from his staff,” Kimes wrote. “I felt like it was my fault, leaving me full of shame. They didn’t give me another part and I thought we could work it out, although I wasn’t sure how. I knew we were all going to stay quiet.”

After Carl was fired, Kimes opened up about his experience with the Hillsong Church hierarchy. Lentz and her husband have come under scrutiny for their treatment of volunteers at their Boston church.

Despite Carl’s propensity for infidelity, Laura is reportedly unable to leave her husband.

Carl and Laura were married in 2003 and have three children in Florida. After her firing, Lentz vowed to mend the broken bond with her family. She wrote on Instagram:

“I was unfaithful in my marriage, the most important relationship of my life, and they held me responsible for it. This failure is mine, and mine alone, and I take full responsibility for my actions. Now I start a path of rebuilding trust with my wife Laura and my children”.

Even in the religious community, cheating is not an easily forgivable sin. However, Carl and Laura seemed to move on without the threat of divorce or separation.

Laura had reportedly lost friends who tried to open her eyes to Carl’s behavior. She has even fallen out of favor with members of her former church, the source said. The informant added:

“Laura told them that they are ‘cowards’ and ‘pathetic’ for not believing Carl and being there for his family. She even called people who are mad at Carl’s antics “non-Christians.” And she has treated people horribly who were again just trying to help her. She basically has been exiled from Hillsong. No one in the church wants anything to do with her.”
