Fashion Designer

Rajesh Pratap Singh began his career in 1997 by launching his brand of men’s and women’s clothing. Pratap’s spring-summer collection at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) in 2006 was widely praised. The designer’s summer collection featured a vibrant line of limes and yellows mixed with rich reds. The collection also experimented with yokes, ribs, and sequins. The unique originality of each item was the most remarkable quality of the collection. In 2007, Wills Lifestyle debuted Rajesh Pratap Singh’s Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week line for which the designer designed a range of menswear and ladies with his distinctive simple aesthetic. Shirts, jackets, popovers, and other items for men were available, as were shirt dresses, tunics, shirts, and evening gowns for women. The collection was created to accommodate both formal and informal situations.

Later in 2008, Rajesh launched his spring-summer 2009 collection at Paris Fashion Week. The play of textiles like cotton and organza was the collection’s focal point. The designer also experimented with the color pallet, incorporating bright hues like fuchsias and corals. The items were positively received for their wearable, clean, and structured cuts. In 2009, Pratap showcased his autumn/winter collection at WIFW, named ‘Valentino Rossi meets Mother Teresa,’ ‘Biker’s Jacket meets Saree,’ which portrayed a glimpse of India to the West in a whole new way. The palette was dominated by black, with undertones of electric blues, magentas, and reds. In 2010, the designer used the concept of ‘Bespoke Tales’ to represent the evolution of tailoring art as observed by the tailor. The grand finale autumn winter collection titled ‘Us and Them’ was showcased at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, representing the perception of the fashion industry by non-industry people. The color palette was dominated by black, red, and blue, with items such as dresses, jackets, and trench coats, to name a few. In 2011, ‘Architectural Romance,’ the designer’s fall-winter collection at WIFW was highly adventurous. The palette of the range was dominated by black and white, with bubble silhouettes and anti-fits. The collection included flower embroideries, leather and felt appliques, pixelated leather sequins, and some beautiful materials dubbed the Aluminium Ikkat by the designer himself.

Pratap also showcased his collection in the grand finale of Dubai Fashion Week in 2011. Rajesh Pratap Singh has a domestic retail presence in the form of six flagship stores and chosen multibrand boutiques across the country. The label is available in a few select boutiques throughout the world.

Philanthropy Initiatives

In 2009, the designer debuted his environmentally conscious collection at the “Green Fashion Show” on Earth Day, which National Geographic Channel organized in collaboration with the British Council and Madi Design. The designer created a variety of hand-woven and hand-spun special organic cotton and other environmentally friendly materials. He is even directly involved with Khadi’s backward and forward integration along with technical advances.

He is also collaborating with a cooperative society to develop the finest Cashmere in India. The designer is also working on a project sponsored by the state government to promote and popularize Orissa handlooms and textiles in India and overseas by developing designs and creating a market for them. In 2012, Pratap was one of twelve designers that displayed for a special event against human trafficking in WIFW, collaborating with an organization called ‘you can free us,’ which rescued women from forced prostitution and was created by NRI philanthropist Sujo John. The story begins with Alice, who was rescued from a brothel in New Delhi, rehabilitated, and then featured in a fashion session titled ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ photographed by Subi Samuel. Rajesh chose a striking black and orange churidar frock to symbolize optimism.
