Early life
Raj Shrikant Thackeray, known as Raj Thackeray, was born on June 14, 1968 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The present age of him is 54 years old as per his birth date and also his birth name is Swaraj Shrikant Thackeray. The politician is an Indian citizen and belongs to the Hindu religion. His zodiac sign is Gemini. He was the son of father Shrikant Prabhodanhar Thackeray and mother Kunda Thackeray. Early years at Shiv Sen
Raj Thackeray began his political career by launching the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena, the student wing of the Shiv Sena. During the 1990 Maharashtra assembly elections, he rose to prominence. He was believed to be the heir to his uncle, Balasaheb, in the 1990s. Balasaheb, on the other hand, showed a strong preference for his own son, Uddhav.
After years of neglect, Raj Thackeray resigned from Shiv Sena in January 2006, announcing his intention to form a new political party. He founded the “Maharashtra Navnirman Sena” party in Mumbai on March 9, 2006. He also names the party with the theme “Sons of the Soil”. In addition, he said at the time of the founding of the party that he does not want to fight with his uncle, who “was, is and always will be (his) mentor to him.”
In the year 2008, he led violent activities in Maharashtra against the North Indian rule, especially against Up and Bihar. His and Shiv Sena’s political party have banned Australian cricketers from participating in the IPL (Season 3) in Mumbai in protest against attacks on Indian students in Australia. In September 2008, MNS workers began blackening English signs to enforce the use of Marathi signs.
In the same year, Raj Thackeray threatened to ban the Bachchan family films unless Jaya Bachchan apologized. The reason behind that was when Jaya Bachchan said that ‘we are the people of UP so we will speak Hindi not Marathi’. MNS workers began attacking theaters showing Jaya-related films. Later, Amitabh Bachchan (Jaya’s husband) apologized for it. On October 2, 2009, MNS workers disrupted the screening of the film ‘Wake Up Sid’ at its release in some cinemas in Pine and Mumbai. After Raj objected to the references to Mumbai in the film as “Bombay” instead of “Mumbai”. For this reason, at various points in the film it changes to “Bombay”.
