Rahul Narayan Kanal started his political career as the first District President of Yuva Sena in Mumbai. Yuva Sena is the youth wing of Shiv Sena and its president is Aditya Uddhav Thackeray. Subsequently, he was elected as the youngest vice president of the District Yuva Sena community. Kanal, along with all the office bearers of Yuva Sena of Bandra West, was suspended by Shiv Sena on 30 June 2023. In response, Kanal took to Twitter, where he wrote,
feeling sad !!! Know very well who has done this but removing people who have worked for you without listening is egoistic and you can remove me but not those who have worked day and night till now. It is good that everyone knows what ego and pride is!!! (It is good that now people will know what happens with arrogance and pride).”

income tax raid
On March 8, 2022, the Income Tax Department raided properties linked to Rahul Kanal. The raid was conducted after Shiv Sena leader Yashwant Jadhav accused Rahul of hawala transactions.
Rahul filed defamation case
In 2022, Rahul had issued a defamation notice to BJP MLA Nitish Rane over his tweets in which Rane had made allegations against Rahul related to income tax searches on Rahul’s properties. Nitesh tweeted,
IT raid on Rahul Kanal’s house!! And take out the front on our orders..had said..it’s a matter of time!!..Mobile tower location and CDR of Kanal on 8th and 13th night will also help in solving Disha and SSR issue!! Partners in Crime?,”
After acknowledging the tweet, Rahul served a defamation notice to Nitish Rane. In the notice issued by Rahul Kanal’s lawyer Shoaib Shaikh, Kunal demanded an apology from Nitish Rana and urged him to remove the tweet within 48 hours. Rahul said in a tweet,
I have requested my legal team to drop the defamation charges and thus monthly consideration of the respectable families who have achieved their personal political achievements…God is great!!! Satyamev Jayate !!!

- In 2015, Rahul Narayan Kanal, owner of Bhaijaan restaurant, decided to pay tribute to Salman Khan by allowing customers to make the bill as per their wish. In an interview, Rahul said,
This is only 0.1 percent of what we can do to celebrate this day. Customers can have whatever they want and get 90 percent or 99 percent discount as per their wish. This is a small tribute that we want to pay to Salman Bhai.
