He played the title role of Ilya, a Russian engineer who falls in love with a young American girl in 19th century Siberia. Mamonov’s performance was widely praised by critics, and the film became a box office success.
Some of Mamonov’s other notable film roles include his lead performance in the 2006 film “The Island,” for which he won the Best Actor award at the 2007 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
