- When she was in grade six, one of her teachers asked if she wanted to be a part of the gymnastics team at school. She agreed to be a part of the team and joined the hostel at KD Singh Stadium in Lucknow for practice sessions. Once he took part in an 800 meter race in the stadium and won the race. After winning the race he realized that he had good stamina. She wanted to change her sport to racewalking but was not allowed to do so, so she left the hostel and went back home. She took a break of three to four years from sports and eventually returned to the stadium to train for athletics. She competed in several track competitions, but was unable to win any awards, so her coach suggested she try racewalking. In 2011, when she was in twelfth grade, she participated in her first race walking event and finished third in the race.

I was never stopped from doing anything. Since childhood, I used to play with boys and even though I came from a village, my parents never stopped me from doing anything. My uncles and other relatives tried to restrain me, but it didn’t really matter because my parents had my back. I was also good in studies, so my parents’ support was never an issue.
