On December 11, 2023, Ashwajit Gaikwad and his friends allegedly invited Priya Singh to a party at the Court Yard Hotel in Ovala, Thane around 1 am, after which she left the hotel. According to Priya, upon reaching the venue around 3 am in the morning, she saw Ashwajeet with another woman, who was reportedly identified by others as his wife. Despite Priya’s many attempts, Ashwajeet refused to talk to her. Along with this, his friend Romil Patil allegedly misbehaved with him. When she requested Gaikwad to intervene and stop Patil from abusing her, Ashwajeet allegedly responded by slapping and strangulating her, biting her hand and forcefully pushing her away. Reportedly, after the assault and argument with Ashwajeet and his friends, Priya Singh went to collect her bag and mobile phone from her SUV when the men assaulted her. According to him, initially he tried to hit him with the SUV car (Land Rover Defender) from behind near the divider. They then came back and deliberately ran the vehicle over its right foot before rapidly leaving the location. Talking about this incident in an interview, he said,
When they sat in the car and started moving, I realized that my phone and purse were in the car. As soon as I reached the door of the Range Rover, I heard him (Ashwajit Gaikwad) saying ‘Blow it away’ to his driver Sagar. He immediately increased the speed and I fell on the ground due to the collision from the left side of the car, after which he pressed the rear left wheel on my right leg.
