Wiki/Biography/Career
Prakashi Tomar was born on 1 January 1937 (age 82 years; as in 2019) in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. Tomar comes from a family with an agricultural background. After marriage, Prakashi went to Johari village in Bhagpat district of Uttar Pradesh. He started his career in shooting at the age of 60. All this happened by chance when he took his first aim. It all started when his daughter, Seema, joined the Johari Rifle Club to learn shooting and Prakashi sent her to the academy. She was shot for the first time when she was teaching her daughter Seema how to hold a gun. This shocked everyone, including the coach, who advised Prakashi to join the shooting range. But since Tomar was a housewife and had to handle many household chores, it was not possible for her to go to the shooting range every day. So, the coach gave him the option of going to the shooting range once a week and continuing his practice from his home. After 2 years of extensive training, Prakashi entered a competition in which he competed against and defeated Dheeraj Singh, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Delhi Police. The DIG refused to be photographed with Tomar and reportedly remarked, “What a photo, I have been humiliated by a woman.” Prakashi has won around 25 championships across the country. He has also won a gold medal in the Veteran Shooting Championship in Chennai. He has inaugurated many sports events and ranges in his village and surrounding areas.
Prakashi has also trained youth from nearby villages to learn shooting techniques at his range.
