Sadhvi Pragya or Pragya Singh Thakur is a Hindu nationalist and an Indian politician. She is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She remains in the news for her controversial statements. BJP fielded him against Congress leader Digvijay Singh from Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 general elections.

Pragya Singh Thakur was born in 1971 (age: 53 years, as of 2023) in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh, India. He received his primary education in his village Lahar. His father CP Thakur was a government employee in the Agriculture Department on the post of ‘Demonstrator’. His father was also an Ayurvedic doctor and had a clinic in his village Lahar. His father was also an active member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). When she was in college she was considered a good speaker. She joined Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the RSS. He holds an MA degree in History from a college in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh.

- She was the main accused in the 2006 bomb blast near a mosque in Malegaon, one of two bomb blasts in Maharashtra and one in Gujarat. About 6 people died and more than 100 were injured. He was arrested and jailed for 9 years. However, he was acquitted of the charges in 2017.

- On 19 April 2019, he created controversy in a press conference. I feel very proud that God gave me this opportunity and I could do this. We will ensure that Ram temple is built at that place.” The Election Commission condemned her comments and banned her for 72 hours from campaigning because she was seeking votes on religious grounds.
- In May 2019, he had commented on Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi. He called Godse a patriot. On her comment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he will never forgive Pragya Thakur for insulting Mahatma Gandhi. BJP President Amit Shah also asked him to clarify his comments within ten days.
- In July 2019, he had given a controversial statement regarding Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission. Speaking to BJP workers in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, he said, “We have not been elected to clean your drains, okay? We have not been chosen to clean your toilets, please understand. The work for which I have been selected, I will do that work honestly, I have said this before and will say it again. He was criticized a lot by senior party workers for this comment.
- Within days of joining the Defense Ministry’s advisory committee, he was dropped from it after he described Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse as a patriot in Parliament during the winter session in November 2019.
- In December 2022, his name was registered in an FIR for giving an inflammatory speech at an event in Shivamogga, Karnataka. In his speech, he targeted a particular community and said,
Keep weapons in your homes, if nothing else, at least keep vegetable cutting knives, sharp…you never know when what situation may arise…everyone has the right to self-defense. If someone enters our house and attacks us, it is our right to give a befitting reply.”
