Star Trek: Picard season 3’s Fleet Museum needs one more special ship to complete Commodore Geordi La Forge’s (LeVar Burton) collection. The Fleet Museum on Athan Prime was a pivotal location in Picard season 3. Not only did the USS Titan-A’s stopover at the Fleet Museum allow Geordi and his daughter, Ensign Alandra La Forge (Mica Burton), to join the action, but Geordi secretly rebuilt the Galaxy Class USS Enterprise-D in Hangar 12. The Enterprise-D allowed Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his crew to defeat the Borg once and for all.
Star Trek: Picard season 3’s Fleet Museum housed a number of Starfleet ships and other famous (or infamous) vessels. Besides the Enterprise-D, two other legendary Starship Enterprises at the Fleet Museum were Captain Jonathan Archer’s NX-01 Enterprise refit and Captain James T. Kirk’s (William Shatner) USS Enterprise-A. Admiral Kathryn Janeway’s (Kate Mulgrew) USS Voyager is also now a museum piece. Starships formerly belonging to Starfleet’s enemies include a 23rd-century Romulan warbird and the HMS Bounty, which is a Klingon Bird-of-Prey stolen by Kirk. But as impressive as Geordi’s starship collection is, Starfleet possesses a unique vessel that should be added to the Museum.
Picard Season 1’s Borg Cube Artifact Should Be Added To Geordi’s Fleet Museum
The Borg Cube Artifact from Star Trek: Picard season 1 belongs in Geordi La Forge’s Fleet Museum. The Artifact was last seen crashed on the planet Coppelius, the homeworld of the synthetic race Soji (Isa Briones) belongs to, at the end of Star Trek: Picard season 1. It wasn’t made clear what became of the Artifact afterward, but Starfleet apparently took possession of it. At the beginning of Star Trek: Picard season 2, it was mentioned that the new USS Stargazer was equipped with Borg technology that was retrofitted from the Artifact. Where the actual Artifact is now located isn’t known, but it logically belongs in the Fleet Museum.
The Artifact was a Borg Cube that was disabled in the 2280s after an encounter with the Romulans left the Cube and its inhabitants severed from the Collective. The Romulans took possession of the Cube and turned it into the Artifact, the site of the Borg Reclamation Project that restored Borg drones back to their original species. Overseen by Hugh (Jonathan Del Arco), the Borg Reclamation Project was a joint venture with the United Federation of Planets, but the extremist Romulan sect called the Zhat Vash killed most of the drones aboard before Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) took control of the Artifact and sent it to Coppelius. Post-Star Trek: Picard season 3, the Artifact, which has likely been stripped of dangerous Borg tech and rendered harmless, belongs in the Fleet Museum on Athan Prime.
The Borg Are No Longer A Threat After Picard Season 3
Starfleet may actually feel more comfortable placing the Artifact on display in the Fleet Museum now that the Borg are no longer a threat after Star Trek: Picard season 3’s ending. The last remnants of the Borg from the Delta Quadrant attempted to assimilate Starfleet through Vox, i.e. Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), the son of Jean-Luc Picard, but the debilitated Borg Queen’s (Alice Krige) final plot was foiled by Picard and the crew of the USS Enterprise-D. The Borg were finally destroyed, which means there’s likely no chance of the Artifact coming back online since there is no more Collective other than the benevolent Borg led by the hybrid Queen who was formerly Dr. Agnes Jurati (Alison Pill).
The Artifact taking its place in the Fleet Museum would effectively symbolize the Federation’s ultimate triumph over the Borg. It would also provide a valuable history lesson about Starfleet’s greatest enemy to visitors. Indeed, Geordi’s own past with the Borg makes him the ideal overseer of the Artifact. Perhaps if Star Trek: Picard‘s proposed spinoff, Star Trek: Legacy, happens, the Artifact will indeed take up one of the vacant circles in the Fleet Museum on Athan Prime.
