Early life
Pete Buttigieg was born in South Bend, Indiana, on January 19, 1982. Peter Paul Montgomery Buttigieg is his birth name. And he is currently 40 years old. His father Joseph Buttigieg was a literature professor at the University of Notre Dame. Her mother, Jennifer Anne Montgomery, was also a professor at Notre Dame. She doesn’t have siblings. From 2007 to 2010, he worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company after graduating. Pete Buttigieg was commissioned as a naval intelligence officer in the Naval Reserve in 2009. He then deployed to Afghanistan for 7 months in 2014 before returning to South Bend as a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve until 2017. Additionally, in 2010, he was the representative of the Democratic Party. He ran for Indiana State Treasurer but was defeated by Republican Richard Mourdock.
Additionally, in November 2011 he was elected mayor of South Bend and took office in January 2012. He also declared in 2014 that he would run for a second term, which he won with 78 percent of the vote, beating Henry Davis, Jr. In November 2015, he was elected to his second term as mayor of South Bend, and in January 2017, he declared his candidacy for chairman of the Democratic National Committee in the 2017 presidential election.
