Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce began dating pop star Taylor Swift last year. There’s no doubt that Kelce is a celebrity in his own right. But Swift is perhaps the most famous person of all time. And as a result, coverage of the Chiefs and the NFL as a whole has skyrocketed.
There was some concern about welcoming Swift to the NFL family. Some worried that the increased coverage around Swift would become a distraction. And thus divert attention from the real game.
But Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes isn’t complaining. He believes she played a role in him becoming TIME magazine’s cover star.

“She was like TIME’s Person of the Year a couple of months before, so it’s really cool to be on the cover of TIME.” mahomes said.
“And it helps when your best friend and your friend are dating the most famous woman in the world,” he added, referencing his “friend” Kelce’s relationship with Taylor.
Kelce has also reaped the benefits of his relationship with Taylor. After he started dating her, he had the opportunity to host Saturday Night Live. He also just was named host of a new talk show,”Are you smarter than a celebrity?.”

Travis’ brother, Jason Kelce, is the starting center for the Philadelphia Eagles. After the Eagles were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, Jason became a regular at Chiefs games, supporting his brother. Naturally, he’s become very familiar with Taylor over the past few months. But Jason said that experiencing being around Swift at the Super Bowl really put into perspective all the things the pop star has to deal with.
“I think this was the first time I understood some of the things she has to deal with in a lot of ways,” Jason said.
“There were so many star-studded people there. Everyone wants to come see it. The suite is very large. It was overwhelming, to be honest with you. She was going to leave the suite to talk to Keegan-Michael Key, his wife, and a group of people. “The celebrity attendance at the game was incredible.”
