Parul Chaudhary is an Indian athlete who competes in track and field sports such as long distance running. She mainly appears in the 5000 meters and 3000 meters steeplechase. She is known for being the first Indian runner to complete the women’s 3000 meters race in under 9 minutes. She attracted attention by winning a gold medal in the 5000 meters event and a silver medal in the 3000 meters steeplechase at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.

Parul Chaudhary Jhajj was born on Saturday, 15 April 1995 (age 28 years; as in 2023) in Ikluta village, Meerut. His zodiac sign is Aries. In 2011, he participated in the 800 meters race in school. She ran the race barefoot. In an interview, he had said that he took part in school races because his father insisted on him. She did not prepare for the race because she never wanted to be an athlete but luckily she won the race. Talking about this in an interview, his father said,
I was planning to go to his school to watch a sports meet. I asked Parul to participate. There was no plan, it was just a suggestion from a father to his daughter. I didn’t know that she would represent India in athletics and reach the finals of the World Championships.
According to his brother, he started practicing regularly after winning the 800 meter race in school. Her sister also practiced with her, participating in school races. They would run through the sugarcane fields, then take the main road and then come back to the village. Parul used to compete in 1500m and 3000m races before choosing 5000m to compete professionally. In 2015, Parul joined the Railways as a ticket examiner at Grant Road station in Mumbai.

In 2022, she achieved a new national record in the women’s 3000 meters event at the Sunset Tour in Los Angeles, breaking Suriya Loganathan’s six-year-old record. In July 2022, she recorded 8:57.19 in the women’s 3000 meters event, breaking Loganathan’s national record of 9:04.5. In May 2023, she competed at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix and set a new personal best of 9:29.51. In July 2023, he recorded his personal best of 9:38.76 at the Asian Athletics Championships in Thailand. In August 2023, she set a national record in the 3000 meters steeplechase with a timing of 9:15.31, which was also her personal best time at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. - In an interview, Parul’s mother said that both her daughters used to win medals in races but Parul usually came first and Preeti came second or third. Preeti was a little sad due to this but they never quarreled with each other on this matter. In another interview, Parul’s mother told that Parul was a fat child and it was difficult to lift her when she was a child. When he started running, his weight lost. Their mother further said that when her daughters ran, many neighbors used to talk ill about them but it had no effect on her or the family. Even after Parul and her sister won the medal, the villagers did not stop commenting.
- According to Parul, if she had not been an athlete and lived in the village, she would have been married. In the interview, he further said that the mentality of the people in the village is still backward. She believes that it is wrong for girls to play sports wearing shorts.
