Own Arthur, an Irish actor, has a theatrical history.
Owain Arthur is best known for his role as Francis Henshall in the play One Man, Two Governors of the National Theater at the Royal Haymarket Theatre, where he tutored James Corden. His stage credits include The History Boys (NT), Romeo and Juliet (Royal Shakespeare Company), The Comedy of Errors (Royal Exchange), and Nicholas Hytner’s Birdsong (Comedy Theatre).
And Confession, London Kills, Hard Sun, Hinterland, Babylon, Casualty, Cei Bach, New Tricks and The Palace are among the TV productions in which the Irish actor starred. He also appeared in a number of films, including White Island, The Patrol, Mr. Nice, Eldra, Higher Grounds and Disney’s upcoming The One and Only Ivan.
Owain Arthur apparently credited his involvement in the next series in an interview at Comic-Con 2022, saying,
“It was one of those situations where I was cast as Durin and I was supposed to play a dwarf and I thought, ‘Yes! I can wear dentures. I have to wear wigs, beards and these amazing outfits. And honestly, most of the time I’m pretty critical of it.”
He continued,
“I really love it and am honored to be allowed to wear it – however it is uncomfortable and strenuous.”
Owain Arthur portrays Prince Durin IV of Khazad-dûm.
Durin IV was the fourth king named Durin. Many individuals, like the previous three, think he is the reincarnation of Durin I due to their uncanny resemblance. He is seen wearing a ring of power given to him by his predecessor Durin III, and will most likely rule during the Final War of the Confederacy. He is the ruler of Khazad-dum, a prosperous underground kingdom.
Owain Arthur’s Durin IV is said to be prominent, saying:
“Durin III, ruler of Khazad-dum and one of the first to bear the ring of power of the dwarves, was their father. The dwarves of Khazad-dûm, or Moria as it was later called, played a key role in some of the key battles in JRR Tolkien’s Second Age that the Ring of Power is expected to depict, particularly the defeat of Dark Lord Sauron at the end of the Second Age.”
When asked in an interview with CBS about his role as a dwarf and how it feels to be part of the legendary story, Arthur said it was an “honour”.
When asked what he looks like, he said:
“My beard has 16 parts, and you’ll say, ‘Oh, there it is!’ through different stages of creation. [laughing] Right down to the last few pins, right here [on the cheekbones], which I realized, ‘Here it is!’ You are going to work!'”
