Overwatch 2’s newest hero Ramattra has officially been announced at the Overwatch League Grand Finals, with players able to unlock him at the beginning of Overwatch 2’s second season on December 6th. As the latest addition to the game’s growing roster of Tank heroes, Ramattra reportedly sits between Overwatch 2’s damage-oriented tanks and defense-oriented tanks, with an ability that allows him to switch between two different forms. Although a complete list of his abilities has yet to be revealed, each form will have various other abilities and attacks, likely making him a true challenge to master. However, with the launch of Overwatch 2, newly introduced heroes will no longer be immediately available to all players, with both free-to-play and premium players able to unlock them via the battle pass.
Unlike Kiriko, Overwatch 2’s newest Support hero, who was made available for free to anyone who’d played the original Overwatch, Blizzard has indicated that new heroes will be locked behind the battle pass. As such, it appears that even players of the original Overwatch won’t have instant access to Ramattra, despite Blizzard playing the long game when it comes to revealing Season 2’s new hero. However, avid fans of the game may remember Ramattra’s appearance at the end of the Storm Rising PvE story mission in 2019, prompting speculation that the character would play a significant role in Overwatch’s story going forward.
Ways To Unlock Ramattra In Overwatch 2
New Overwatch 2 heroes are locked to the battle pass going forward, a move that’s disappointed fans. Blizzard has outlined their plans for new heroes in a blog post, stating that players who buy into the premium track of the latest battle pass will get instant access to new heroes. As such, players who pay for Season 2’s premium battle pass will instantly unlock Ramattra. However, players who stick to the game’s free battle pass track can instead unlock Ramattra by reaching Battle Pass Tier 55. This can be done by completing an assortment of daily and weekly challenges to earn Battle Pass XP and rank up quickly.
There are a few good ways to play Overwatch 2 without spending money, and players who don’t manage to get to Tier 55 during Season 2 will still be able to unlock Ramattra in subsequent seasons. In addition, Overwatch 2 features special Hero challenges, allowing players to unlock heroes from previous seasons. Regardless, free-to-play players will likely have to play dozens of matches to complete these challenges or to gain the necessary XP to get to Tier 55.
However, as the premium battle pass track is purchased using Overwatch Coins, some Overwatch 2 players may be able to take advantage of a particular niche way to farm coins. Players with subscriptions to Blizzard’s venerable MMO World of Warcraft have found that they can get Overwatch Coins by playing WoW. Blizzard’s MMO allows players to buy in-game tokens that can be exchanged for Battle.net currency, which in turn can be used to purchase Overwatch Coins. Players can only earn a maximum of 60 Overwatch Coins a week from completing Weekly Challenges in Overwatch 2, so this may be a useful tactic for players who want to grab Ramattra quickly at the start of Season 2.
