Dembele was born in Verona, Northern France on 15 May 1997 to parents Ousmane Sr. and Farimata Dembele. His parents were migrants from Mauritania who were forced to emigrate to France in search of a better life for their family. Ousmane was an extroverted child who was obsessed with football and only thought about playing it. Because of his obsession, he refused to attend high school or college and instead focused on his game. His parents encouraged him to follow his dreams after seeing his enthusiasm for sports.
