Oliver Hudson opens up about his childhood and talks about the trauma he experienced in his youth.
During the last episode of party between brothers, Hudson talked about growing up with her mother, Goldie Hawn.
“Interestingly, my mother was the one I had the most trauma with,” Oliver Hudson said. He talked about life after Hawn divorced her absent father, Bill Hudson. “Because she was my primary caregiver and I was with her all the time, I sometimes felt unprotected.”
However, the actor still stated that First Wives Club Star is an amazing mother. But he still struggled with her work schedule and her personal life choices.
“She would be working. She had new boyfriends that I didn’t really like,” Oliver Hudson continued. “This is my own perception as a girl who didn’t have a father and needed her to be there. And she just wasn’t there. [there] Sometimes she went out a lot more than my dad, who wasn’t there.”
Hawn continued to raise Oliver and his sister, Kate Hudson, alone until she met Kurt Russell in 1983. Despite never marrying, the couple has been together ever since.

In March 2021, Oliver Hudson took a walk down memory lane and remembered the road trips he, his sister Kate, and their “badass” mom Goldie Hawn took while growing up.

Sharing his true thoughts about his mother, Oliver Hudson stated, “My mom was – is – tough. Honestly, we took a lot of road trips. There are one couple in particular who are very memorable just because we were young. We were in the southwest riding in her truck and we felt free.”
Hudson later said that during road trips, they didn’t have the technology they have now. They didn’t stop to watch television either. “It was just this freedom of being in the world with nothing but ourselves, nature and nature.”
When it came to his favorite musical artist to listen to on the road, Hudson answered: George Michael. “So there was a lot of George Michael shooting from the van and a lot of stops along the way, and that’s the beauty of camping too,” she added. One moment you’re having the most beautiful moment of your life, and the next, you’re throwing up over the Grand Canyon, trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with your child. It’s fun, all of it.”
