OJ Simpson’s estate plans to fight payments to Brown and Goldman families: ‘I hope they get nothing’

Days after news broke that OJ Simpson died following a battle with prostate cancer, the disgraced NFL star’s executor is speaking out about civil judgment payments to the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

Although he was acquitted in his 1995 criminal trial for the murders of Nicole and Ron, Simpson was sued by the families of his ex-wife and her friend and was held responsible for both deaths. He was ordered to pay $33.5 million to both families.

However, nearly three decades after the civil trial, the Browns and Goldman have not received the money. And with OJ Simpson dead, it appears that the executor of his estate, Malcolm LaVergne, has no plans to ever pay the families the full amount.

During a recent interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, LaVergne said he expects the Goldmans to get “zero, nothing.”

“Them specifically,” LaVergne said of the Goldmans. “And I will do everything in my capacity as executor or personal representative to try to ensure that they don’t get anything.”

Speaking about why he personally doesn’t like the Goldmans, LaVergne noted that the family because of their involvement in the OJ Simpson book, Yes, I do. The Goldmans gained control of the manuscript and retitled the book. If I did: murderer’s confessions.

LaVergne further stated that the Goldman family is still seeking the wrongful death judgment, but said there was never a court to force OJ Simpson to pay the $33.5 million.

Simpson previously stated that he lived only off his NFL and private pensions over the years. Hundreds of valuable possessions were reportedly seized as part of the civil trial ruling. The former NFL player was also forced to auction off his Heisman Trophy, which sold for $230,000.

Ron Goldman’s father speaks out about OJ Simpson’s death

In a statement to PEOPLE, Ron Goldman’s father Fred spoke about the death of OJ Simpson. Fred has been an outspoken critic of Simpson for almost 30 years. He still believes the NFL star murdered his son.

“This is just a reminder to us of how long Ron has been gone, how much we miss him and nothing more than that,” Fred said. “That’s the only thing that matters today. It is the pain from then until now.”

Fred reiterated that the key focus is that his family misses Ron. “Today there is nothing more important than the loss of my son and the loss of Nicole. Nothing is more important than that.”

OJ Simpson’s children announced on Friday that he had died on April 10. He was 76 years old at the time of his death.
